Billed as an alternative comedy show, ChUC has standup performances by a number of comedians known on the national and local levels

This outstanding night of comedy takes in four to five comics each week. Keep your eye on some of these folks: they're going places.

Serving up a rotating cast of some of Chicago’s best up-and-coming stand-ups paired with local drafts and lamb lollipops, ChUC -- as it’s affectionately referred to -- is a warm room for cool bits.

“You are NOT going to see hack comedy performances detailing tired premises such as ‘the difference between men and women.’ ” So says the website for Chicago Underground Comedy, the Tuesday night carousel of talent in the backroom of Beat Kitchen, a bar in Roscoe Village (chalkboard beer list, pink Christmas lights, grimy tiles) where working comedians congregate. Instead, you’ll hear well-known local joke tellers dispense fresh alt-comedy about breakups, injuries, misunderstandings, working at Starbucks, and how to get a DUI on a bicycle.

ChUC is a long-running standup showcase put up in the music room of the Beat Kitchen by a cast of some of the city’s most promising up-and-comers (former cast members include Nick Vatterott, Kumail Nanjiani, and Jared Logan). There’s always a chance of a surprise drop-in from more well-known performers when they’re in town, which makes ChUC one of the go-to spots for local comedy fans.
